A Town Without Money, Religion And Governments

Can one believe that there will one day be a city where there is no politics, religion or need for money?

Would it be too utopian an idea to imagine that one day we will be free from racism, bigotry, governmental structures and greedy capitalism?

Thankfully this kind of city already exists in the world.

It’s name is Auroville.

Auroville – also known as the city of dawn, got its name from the French word “aurore” meaning dawn and “ville” meaning city.

It is also named after Sri Aurobindo who was a spiritual reformer and visionary on human progress and spiritual evolution.

This town is in South India – about 93 miles from Chennai.

The soul of the city is Matrimandie and it contains a majestic structure. It is a symbol of the Divine’s answer to man’s aspiration for perfection”. If you go into that structure, people observe silence inside in order to ensure that people experience tranquility and it is also called the Peace area. People go there to ‘find one’s consciousness’.

If you look right across Matrimandie, there is an urn that contains many type of soils – it comes 124 different nations when the township was founded in 1968.

The town itself is self sufficient with over 150 hectares of farms, cornfields and orchards.

Going through the city is like a truly ‘one-race humanity’ society because people hail from over 50 different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.

This town as a multicultural, international city by Unesco and is backed by the Indian government.

The purpose of this city to have such a large international community is said to be an experiment to realize human unity where everybody can peacefully coexist in one place.

They have set its own 4-point Charter for a vision of Integral living since the town was founded:

  1. Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville, one must be the willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.
  2. Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.
  3. Auroville wants to be the bridge between the past and the future. Taking advantage of all discoveries from without and from within, Auroville will boldly spring towards future realizations.
  4. Auroville will be a site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual Human Unity.

Why is the ideology of this town so important?

It is because humanity has become really undivided over inconsequential things.

They have lost sight on the big picture where resource-based economies do thrive without worrying about greed or corruption. There’s more than enough resources to go around, so why steal from your neighbor?

Auroville on the other hand practices what is similar to a resource-based economy where people share freely their abundance of resources.

In a resource-based economy, people work with maximizing the available resources they already have instead of creating artificial demand and inflating prices in order to take advantage of other people.

In a place where everybody is judged not by the color of their skin but by the strength of their character, this will be a hallmark of equality where it is practiced rather than preached about.

In Auroville, you have the ability to make a contribution as a volunteer. By working and contributing, you can adopt a very new way of life as it brings a whole new level of humility.

When we are able to focus on the big picture, you can create your own Garden of Eden and live a tranquil life because of all the abundant resources in the universe.

This kind of future is possible because humanity is ready to awaken as a species.

Auroville, while it is an experimental community, shows that the utopian idea of a union of human races is possible.

According to Neale Donald Walsch, author of ‘Conversations With God’, humanity is a young species that is learning to deal with the information they have gotten on this planet.

Mankind aren’t inherently cruel or evil, they just don’t know what to do with the information of the collective consciousness – that is why some tend to react with fear and erect walls.

But Auroville is proof that we can transcend as a species. It shows the side that humanity can work together when they are given the right conditions to evolve.

The question you can ask yourself is, once I am free from the societal constructs that has elements are not working for me, how can I live a more authentic and free life for myself and others?
