Have you ever wondered why some people do not change their view about the world or the way they do things throughout their whole lives?
Why is it some people can succeed no matter how bad their circumstances while others will fail no matter how hard they try?
It is all because of the beliefs they have in their minds.
Why Understanding Beliefs Can Help Our Lives?
There’s a story about an elephant and it’s trainer.
The elephant trainer has a very smart way to train the elephant not to escape.
When the elephant is a little baby, the trainer chains the young elephant’s leg to a very large pillar.
When the baby tries to run away, it fails because it was overpowered by the chain and the pillar.
Eventually after much struggling, the baby elephant gives up and resigns to it’s fate.
After a number of years, the elephant makes a neuro-association with the thing tied to it’s foot.
It starts to believe that whenever the foot is tied, it has no power to break free and it just sits there.
Even when the elephant grows up and becomes stronger, all the elephant needs to do is tie the elephants foot with a small rope to anything – even a little twig and the elephant won’t even resist.
It has become conditioned to be a prisoner of its past.
The elephant has developed a limiting belief.
The same with a dog. Train a dog to act a certain way and reward it with a treat.
What Are Beliefs And How They Affect Us?
Beliefs are an internalized system in our minds that determines our moral compass and our way of life.
Just like the elephant above, we can become disempowered by our beliefs if we have the wrong set of beliefs.
Why beliefs are so powerful is not because of the reality itself but because of the way we perceive reality through the filters of our beliefs.
Beliefs were developed gradually over time through a series of events:
- Traumatic experiences
- Household values
- Peer pressure
- Social conditioning
- Education system
- Cultural upbringing
- Television shows
- And many other values that were taught throughout a person’s life.
Beliefs are also assumptions we make about ourselves and the world around us.
If our beliefs are useful, our actions will be useful. If our beliefs are destructive, even good things will turn sour.
There Are Two Kinds Of Beliefs
- Empowering beliefs
- Limiting beliefs
Empowering beliefs consist of positive, uplifting and helpful motivation that helps us to reach our goals. Empowering beliefs are like rocket boosters strapped to your back when you are driving a car. The more empowering your beliefs, the faster your car (your life) will go.
Limiting beliefs consist of negative and disempowering hindrances that stops us from reaching our goals. Limiting beliefs are like climbing a mountain while carrying rocks in your backpack. Remove those rocks (limiting beliefs) and your life will skyrocket.
If you want a breakthrough in your life, you must begin with empowering beliefs.
Empowering beliefs are useful when it comes to replacing limiting beliefs..
|My past does not determine my future.||I’ve failed before so I’m going to fail again|
|I always put 100% in everything I do.||I’m too old/young to learn new things|
|Failure is just a new way to learn something new.||I am afraid to fail|
|If I can’t, I must; if I must, I can.||I can’t…|
|Whatever happens in life, I treat it as a challenge and an opportunity to grow.||Why did this happen again?|
|Life is great! Everything is wonderful.||Feeling ungrateful|
|I like being in a position to give than to receive.||Why am I always giving to others?|
|I am responsible for my life and I create my own reality.||Blaming others|
|Confusion is good – it means I am learning a new skill||I’m confused and I don’t want to learn|
|I love my life!||I wish I was dead.|
How To Start Installing Empowering Beliefs?
In order to install new and empowering beliefs, you have to focus very clearly on your goal.
Visualize your desired outcome and map out the beliefs that you will need in order to get there.
For example, if you want to make a million dollars in a year, you would need to build a business on the side when you are working at a job.
A side business takes time. Like 3-4 hours a day and some time on the weekends.
In order to do this, you need discipline and you need to be a willing learner.
Having discipline is very important. Having a willingness to learn is also important.
Visualize yourself having discipline and having a desire to learn everything you can.
Make sure these beliefs cover over limiting ones such as ‘I don’t think I can succeed’ or ‘I don’t have enough time’ etc…
Change Your Beliefs And Change Your Life!
Here’s an exercise you can do.
Imagine that nothing in your past will hamper you today.
Your past is history. It does not exist in the realm of today.
Your past actions have no hold on you.
You are not a victim to your beliefs in the past.
You are not who you used to be.
You are not who people used to think you were.
The past is a memory.
You are who you are RIGHT NOW.
At this very moment, you are you.
Like the elephant, it is time to see how much you have grown and it is time to remove the little string that you have given too much power to.
The best way to change your beliefs is to go deep into the subconscious mind using tools like hypnotherapy.
The key is to understand what kind of mental models are are operating by.
If our beliefs are limiting, it means our mental models are obsolete and it is time for an upgrade.
“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy.”
